Enhanced Interactive Viewer Component: The new Interactive Viewer uses the highly interactive and user-friendly concepts pioneered by user interfaces such as Google Maps and uniquely applies these to Business Intelligence. The Viewer presents users of BIRT Reports with an AJAX-based interface to change the look of a report to meet their individual preferences and needs without the need for explanation or training. Improvements include an activity-sensitive cursor that guides the novice user, drag-and-drop column manipulation and new report panning control for easier navigation within portlet windows. The latest version affords increased deployment flexibility for IT including the ability to control and expose Interactive Viewing features on a role-by-role basis, and the introduction of the Interactive Viewer Component for embedding within Java applications.

Introduction of a new JavaScript API: Easily add content from Actuate BIRT reports, reportlets, Interactive Reports, and Flash objects to external applications, dashboards and mashups. The new JavaScript API allows organizations to leverage the Actuate 10 platform to drive information-based applications seamlessly within their larger applications, portals, and products.

Page Level Security (PLS) added to BIRT: This feature allows a single report on the server to offer personalized report views to each recipient based on security rules, thereby allowing a single report to serve the function of multiple reports. PLS eliminates excessive report generation, and reduces IT management headaches as user communities grow.
Actuate BIRT support for Adobe Flash Charts, Gadgets and Objects: The Actuate BIRT designers include a Flash Object Library containing more than 250 Flash charts and visualizations such as gauges, thermometers, bullet charts, spark charts, pyramid charts and .more than 300 world-wide geographic maps. In Actuate BIRT Reports, this feature supports embedding objects from the Flash Object Library as well the use of user-defined and third-party Flash Objects.
Improvements to e.Reports and e.Spreadsheet: e.Spreadsheet Designer, which allows organizations to generate analysis-ready Excel reports, now includes support for Microsoft Excel 2007, PDF output, a new chart builder and a new query builder. e.Reports, commonly used for creating brochure quality reports, has been enhanced to provide even more robust PDF support with new ‘Table of Contents’ capabilities.
